First of all, full disclosure: I know the author. But that doesn't mean I'm just going to give him a pat on the back and say everything in the book is fantastic, because you wouldn't believe that, would you? What I will tell you is who this book is for and who it isn't for. The book is primarily aimed at an audience of travellers and/or tourists who are new to Asia; meaning, those people who have never before been to the countries mentioned (for example, China or Indonesia), but who are intending to go there soon and have little to no knowledge about the area. A lot of what you will find in this book may seem like common sense to some, but mostly to people who have lived or travelled in Asia quite a bit already. For anyone else, there is a lot of practical and useful information here that may leave you chuckling at times, but it will also make you think twice about cultural habits you have that you may not even have been aware of before. The author is good at writing from his personal experience, and shares interesting stories along the way to illustrate his points. Overall, I would recommend this book to anyone looking to make a trip to the greatest and most diverse continent on the planet - Asia. Mr. Worden will be your guide, showing you the ropes and making you breathe a sigh of relief that someone else has already done much of the work for you. UPDATE: The typos I mentioned before have been fixed. The book has been edited/updated and is now better than ever! Don't hesitate to purchase.Product details

100 Travel Tips For Asia eBook Scott Worden Reviews
I found this book to be concise and entertaining to read, especially when he added his own experiences and insights into all his travels. Unlike other travel tips books which are filled with bulletin pointers and bland, redundant information, the author is very succinct and frank like the sections on warnings for female travelers and the perils of sex tourism. The author draws heavily from his own experiences in this region. Although I would like more detailed experiences, overall this book is fun to read and makes a great travel companion.
Don't get me wrong - I think this is a great book if you're going in Asia for the first time. But I've been in Asia a few times (and loved it every single time) so I bought the book to see if I could learn something new. Sadly no. But I loved the structure of the book - one chapter for each country.
This is a very informative book. I have many guides to help with me with my travels, but many suffer from information overload. This author has picked out the best tips for the traveler and gives personal stories to back them up. I have not been to all the countries mentioned in the book, but I can attest to many of the things he has written. Like the author, I have also experienced taxis in Japan and art scams in China. If you need a good book filled with useful travel tips for Asia...this book is for you. I wish I had read this before buying an $80 one-of-a-kind piece of art in Beijing.
This book offers great advice for first-time travelers to east and southeast Asia. Having visited several of these countries already myself including South Korea, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand and Cambodia I can attest to the helpfulness of these travel tips. Some of the tips are common sense (which unfortunately many western tourists seem to lack when traveling abroad) but others come from the author's extensive experience living and traveling in these countries. Definitely get this ebook if you plan to travel to Asia in the near future.
I have been living in Asia for 5 years now, teaching English, yet I still found myself learning a lot through this book. It's filled with first hand experiences to make it entertaining, and facts and perceptions to help give westerners something to think about through cultural hiccups. haha
The culture in Asia is always changing, and while I couldn't agree with 100% of all the perceptions in this book - I found no trouble at all agreeing with the vast majority of it and have no trouble recommending others to pick this up.
This book does an excellent job of saying things you SHOULD do and SHOULDN'T do in Asia. It is not a book for people looking for SPECIFIC destination recommendations!
For the price, it's a fantastic and entertaining read, end-to-end. I don't think you can find a better bang for your buck.
Hope that helps!
~Chris
I think that anyone who is planning a trip to any of the Asian countries listed would benefit from not only reading this book, but making sure they have it with them when they go. So many pople go to Asian countries without doing much, if any research, and too many end up in some sort of trouble. The author draws on his own experiences and provides an insight into what to be aware of in each country in order to make the most of the trip and to keep out of trouble. Highly recommended.
First off, I strongly disagree with the 1-star rating. While some tips in this book may be considered common sense to SOME travellers, many people are ignorant or nieve and honestly need the instruction spelled out for them. I liked that the tips are specific by country, as each country has its own cultural differences and may or may not accept certain acts or gestures from foreigners. I highly recommend this book to anyone travelling to the countries noted CAMBODIA, TAIWAN, CHINA, JAPAN, INDONESIA, The PHILIPPINES, SINGAPORE, SOUTH KOREA, and THAILAND.
